Learning begins at Animals 101.
Humane education is all about kindness, compassion and responsibility for
animals, human beings, and the environment.
The Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County’s Education
Department teaches these concepts through a variety of classes, workshops,
events, and tours. Since HSVB&IRC believes that everyone plays an important
role in making our world a better place, the shelter regularly reaches out to
all corners of our community and all different age groups as well. We offer a
range of
educational opportunities including:

The Care Cadets belong to a volunteer program for students ages 12-15. The
program offers dedicated students the opportunity to work “hands-on” at
the Humane Society, assisting staff with animal care, socialization and
training.
Each year, 20 young volunteers are selected for this program. To be considered for the program,
you must sign up on the list at the desk in the Adoption Center before
next February. Each student and one parent must
attend one (1) information session held in March. Remember, over 100 youth
will sign up for the limited number of slots, so register now. To get more
