The Continuing Dog Training Class expands on the dog’s basic
training and establishes an order of practice for the owner/dog team to
reinforce the foundation relationship. The class presents new exercises
designed to improve the owner’s handling skills, body language and
motivational skills, working toward creating a higher level of dog attention
and responsive behavior. The objective of on-going training is to produce
dogs that have been trained to behave in the home, in public places and in
the presence of other dogs.
Our popular Puppy Parties (for puppies from age 8- to 16-weeks) are
scheduled for the 3rd Monday of each month at the shelter. The purpose of the
puppy parties is to help puppies learn social skills with other puppies in
their own age group. This early socialization with different breeds and sizes
of puppies helps to eliminate future dog-dog aggression problems. The class
also reviews realistic expectations by the owners for normal puppy behavior
and establishing both housetraining and socialization programs for the puppy.
Puppies must be over 8 weeks and less than 16 weeks old. They should wear a
flat, buckle or snap-around collar with a 5 to 6-foot leash. Puppies may bring as
many people as they wish. Call 388.3331, Ext 19 for information and
reservations.
