Pet behavior services.
Studies indicate that approximately 75% of dogs who are surrendered to
shelters, given away, picked up by animal control as lost pets, or euthanized
at veterinary clinics are the direct result of a behavior problem the owners
either cannot or will not deal with any longer. The Pet Behavior Program at
HSVB&IRC was established to be a resource for the community, to both adopters
and non-adopters, offering assistance to owners with pet behavior problems
before they make the decision to return or surrender pets - with the
objective to keep pets permanently in their homes.
Why is basic dog training important? It gives the owner needed principles
of teaching a dog to learn from and listen to them. Training is part of the
process that develops and expands the dog’s security and relationship within
the home. You are giving a part of yourself to the dog and he is learning how
he fits into your family and lifestyle. Learn more when you
