Perhaps the most direct and immediate way to shop-and-support the Humane
Society is to patronize our Thrift Shops - either as a customer or a donor. At the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County, we want people
to give as much thought to where they donate their clothes as they would to
where they donate their money. Donors should give to charities they know and
trust and that will make the most of their donations.
Suggestion for our donors... go ahead and fill in your «Receipt
for Tax Deductible Donations» before you visit the Thrift Store. Our staff
will "check in" the items you bring to us, sign the receipt for you, and give
you a copy for your tax records. Have questions about the values of items you
donate? See our "Tips For Donors" found below and take a look at this «valuation guide».
Items Accepted: Due to staff, space, and expense considerations, we are
not able to accept everything. Here is a list of «donations
we accept», which includes specific items we cannot accept. Please consult
this list before planning your drop-offs.
THE GREENEST PRODUCT IS
THE ONE THAT ALREADY EXISTS!

To reuse products that have not outlived their life cycle is the second
most important method of reducing our waste stream and conserving our
natural resources. And, when you are support the Humane Society Thrift
Shops you are "Thrift Cycling!"
*You obtain quality merchandise at a
great value.
*The Humane Society raises funds to run their shelter and the many
programs they offer to the community.
*The planet benefits thru the reduction of waste and natural resource
conservation.
Bring us your re-sellable items and keep
them out of the landfill. «Click
here» for a list of the items that
we accept for donation. And be a proud Humane Society Thrift Shopper and
Donor. You’re helping to save the animals and the planet! |

TIPS FOR DONORS: Federal law permits the Humane Society's donors to claim tax deductions
for many financial contributions and for donated clothing and household goods
in good, used condition or better. If you’re unsure whether your item qualifies for a tax deduction, then
consider this: if you would give it to a relative or friend, then the item is
most likely in good condition and is appropriate to donate.
The U.S. Internal Revenue Service requires donors to value their items..
We encourage you to refer to the IRS' guide entitled
«Determining the Value of Donated Property»
and the «IRS Form 8283».
Before you drop off your items at the Thrift Shop, go ahead and download
a «Receipt
for Tax Deductible Donations». Fill it in in advance. When you get to the
Thrift Store, our staff will "check in" your items, sign your receipt, and
give back a copy for your tax records. To
help assist you in determining the tax-deductible value of any items you donate, the Humane Society has compiled a suggested list with price
ranges for items commonly sold in thrift stores. «See the
valuation guide», Assume the items are in good condition, and remember -
prices are only estimated values. If you have any questions, we encourage you
to seek advice from a trustworthy tax advisor. |
