We want YOU as a Volunteer!

Volunteers play an essential role in our work at the shelter and out in the community to educate others, encourage responsible pet ownership and share the joy of animal companionship. The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County would not be able to operate at the present level of service with out our dedicated volunteers who contribute more than 50,000 hours every year.

How to become a volunteer.

First, you need to attend one of our general volunteer orientations about our Humane Society. Some positions may require additional training as well.

New Volunteer Orientation is held on the first or second Saturday each month in the Education Room at the shelter from 9-11am.

For the next available date, call 772-388-3331 ext. 12.

The opportunities we have are quite varied from working directly with the animals at the shelter to helping us raise funds by working at our thrift shops in Vero Beach and Sebastian. Our Dog Buddy and Cat Cuddler Programs are space-limited; but we always need help in our retail All For Paws store, the laundry room, Administration and Adoption Office, and many more areas. Your valuable donation of service, regardless of whether you commit to a few hours each month or many hours every week, helps us better serve both the pets and people of Indian River County who need our help.

Thank you for your interest in our volunteer program. We look forward to seeing you soon at our next orientation. The animals will be forever grateful.

Do you like working with animals and people?

Humane Society volunteers provide a valuable service by helping animals and assisting in community programs. Volunteers also learn new skills, meet new people and find their work rewarding. The following are a few program policies:

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to work alone. Children aged 10-17, may volunteer with an adult.

  • We ask that you please wear closed toe shoes and long pants for your safety when working with the animals.

Can you help at our Thrift Shops?

For friends willing to volunteer at our Thrift Shops, a brief volunteer orientation will be given to you on your first day. Our stores provide much needed funding for our important community services. WE NEED YOUR HELP!

For more info, call Annette at our Vero Beach store (772-567-2044) or Patti at our Sebastian store (772-589-0323).
