Joining Forces with Humane Society to Provide Shelter for Overcrowded Kennels

The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVB) is embracing a heartening collaboration with local veterinary clinic and dog spa, Mermaid Vet/Orchid Island, amidst the challenging problem of full kennels.

In an inspiring demonstration of community support, Mermaid Vet has stepped forward to house over 20 adoptable dogs from the HSVB shelter. As the Humane Society experiences a surge of animal surrenders, up by 53% from last year, kennel space has been critically low.

Mermaid Vet is more than just a helping hand. Having recently expanded by acquiring the Orchid Island Dog Spa, it is well-equipped to ensure comfort and well-being for its temporary furry residents, allowing HSVB to maintain their crucial work without compromising any animal’s welfare.

Kate Meghji, CEO of HSVB, expressed her gratitude: “We are immensely grateful to Mermaid Vet/Orchid Island Dog Spa for their incredible support and willingness to assist us during this challenging time. Their partnership allows us to ensure every animal receives the care and attention they deserve as we diligently find them loving homes.”

The Humane Society’s collaboration with Mermaid Vet emphasizes the power of community collaboration in facing animal welfare challenges. They hope their united front inspires others to join the effort, forging a brighter future for our homeless furry friends.

Dr. Peter Mosites, owner of Mermaid Vet/Orchid Island Dog Spa, shares the excitement: “We are thrilled to lend our capabilities to the Humane Society, furthering their mission of finding loving families for the dogs of Indian River County and beyond. We’re excited to contribute to helping these pups find forever homes.”

If you’re interested in meeting our adoptable canine pals, you can visit them at the Orchid Island Dog Spa during their operation hours: Monday – Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m, located at 6590 Old Dixie Highway, Vero Beach 32967. You can also call 772-217-8257 for more information. We can’t wait to help these dogs find their loving forever homes!
