Deciding to give up a pet can be difficult. We understand there are times when families must consider surrendering a pet. An unexpected life event—such as illness, death or unplanned move—may make caring for a pet seem impossible. Other times, people think they must give up their pet because they do not know how to handle a particular issue or medical problem.

Surrendering an animal
We understand that it is sometimes necessary to surrender a pet. To surrender your pet, please book an appointment with our Pawsitive Impact Team so we can help.
We do our best to screen all of our animals for any medical or behavioral problems, and we are able to do this best when we have an opportunity to speak with the owner about their time with the pet and the owner shares with us any pertinent medical or behavioral information. Our goal is to find a happy home for every healthy and treatable animal. We can achieve this by knowing more about the animals that come into our care.
When you relinquish your pet, you are giving up all legal ownership rights to the animal. Legal ownership and responsibility are transferred to HSVB. We take your animal’s well-being very seriously and have a team of compassionate and dedicated animal care professionals who will provide loving care
