Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

The work we accomplish would not be possible without the dedication of volunteers. Compassionate, dedicated volunteers are essential to our programs and services across the organization, and it is important to us that volunteering be a meaningful experience for everyone who participates. From working in the kennels, to supporting the clinic, to helping in our Thrift Store, there’s a place for you here.

We provide many opportunities for you to get involved! We are looking for people from all walks of life who meet the following qualifications:

  • Must be able to give a 4-6 month commitment at a minimum (average of 2 hours per week).

  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Must be able to fully support HSVB’s vision, mission, and policies, and be able to communicate those to the public.

  • Must demonstrate good customer service skills and be able to work well in a team environment.

  • Must complete volunteer process and orientation to be considered.

  • $25 fee due at orientation to cover T-shirt, name tag, and training, etc.

Kennel Support

Help with canine enrichment; do cleaning, laundry, and dishes; help maintain the play yards; clean and organize, prep food for distribution; and other duties. Requires handling soiled items. Indoor and outdoor opportunities.

Canine Companion

Walk, train, spend one-on-one time with, and play with all types of dogs. Learn to work on behavior modification plans with certain dogs. Even take dogs on excursions or staycations.

Feline Friend

Provide human companionship, interactive playtime, and socialization to help each cat cope with shelter stress and the disruption of their daily routines.

Veterinary Professionals

Professional Veterinarians, Registered Vet Technicians and Vet Assistants volunteer with our Veterinary team during surgery, treatments and/or rehabilitation for shelter animals. Volunteers must successfully complete a working interview prior to joining the team.

Thrift Shop

Our thrift shops have several volunteers who take part in every aspect of daily operations. This includes receiving and sorting donations for assessment, organizing products for display, and cleaning.

Events

Represent HSVB at fundraising special events and community events (“offsites”) by handling adoptable animals and assisting with event tasks
